Love Sholver is one of six projects under the banner of pARTicipate, a three-year programme developed from a partnership between the Oldham and Rochdale Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder, Oldham and Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Councils and Arts Council North West. Our vision is for arts and cultural activities to play a key part in the delivery of the HMR Pathfinder programme and beyond.
Sholver is a Housing Market Renewal intervention area located in an elevated position to the North East of Oldham town centre. Sholver itself is divided into two halves, Top Sholver (which consists of mainly social rented housing) and Bottom Sholver (which consists of mainly private housing).
In 2008 Sholver residents were involved in a Participatory Appraisal project, including community based video work to gather information about the hobbies, pastimes and interests of their community. The annual Love Sholver festival was developed from that work and aims to showcase the diverse range of cultural activities within the area.
These films will be showcased as part of the Love Sholver Festival; Total dance has submitted an expression of interest to create a community dance team with the young people in the area called “JLS” (Just Love Sholver) Late September 2009.
